Tools in your account

Limits, time-outs and self-exclusion

Every casino ranked on this site offers deposit limits, loss limits, session reminders, time-outs from 24 hours to six weeks, and self-exclusion from six months upwards. These sit in the account settings, usually under a heading like "responsible gaming" or "safer gambling". Set the deposit limit before the first deposit, when the number is still a decision rather than a reaction.

Self-exclusion at one casino does not carry over to another. That is the gap the National Gambling Exclusion Register is meant to close once the Gambling Regulatory Authority of Ireland launches it. Until then, exclude yourself at each operator you hold an account with, and ask your bank about blocking gambling transactions: Revolut, AIB, Bank of Ireland and PTSB all offer a gambling block in the app.

The 2024 Act also bans credit-card deposits, sets stake and win limits on certain games, and prohibits inducements such as complimentary bets and VIP programmes for licensed operators. Those rules exist because the tools above only work when the operator wants them to.

Questions about responsible gambling

5 questions

Who do I call if gambling is causing harm?

01
The National Gambling Helpline on 1800 936 725. It is free, confidential and answered 24 hours a day, run by GamblingCare.ie. If you would rather talk to a counsellor, Extern Problem Gambling on 089 241 5401 offers free specialist counselling by phone, video or in person.

Is there a national self-exclusion register in Ireland?

02
Not yet. The Gambling Regulation Act 2024 requires the regulator to set up a National Gambling Exclusion Register that blocks you from every licensed operator at once. Until it launches, self-exclusion is done at each casino separately, in the account settings or through support.

How do deposit limits work?

03
Every casino listed on this site lets you set a daily, weekly or monthly deposit limit in your account. Lowering a limit applies at once; raising one takes at least 24 hours at licensed operators. Under the 2024 Act licensed operators must offer these limits.

Can someone else exclude me?

04
A family member can ask a casino to close an account and most licensed operators will act on a credible request, but they cannot be forced to under current Irish law. Gamblers Anonymous Ireland and Extern both offer support for families.

What signs should I watch for?

05
Chasing losses, gambling with money set aside for bills, hiding the amount from people close to you, and feeling restless when not gambling. Two or more of these are a reason to call the helpline, not a reason to feel ashamed.
